Changing A Hydraulic Piston

StopBreeze variable height railings consist of two posts which support a fixed glass panel and a second glass panel that elevates. The elevation process is carried out by two hydraulic pistons, one in each of the posts. Only one of the pistons is locking. This is usually the one on the left when looking at the back of the railing.

It might be nnecessary to remove and replace one or both of the pistons in the event of a malfunction. Here are some easy to follow, step by step  instructions.

STEP ONE
Make sure the upper panel is elevated. It needs to be held in position by using a suction pad or a couple of pieces of wood 40 3/8″ long, one at each side to stop the glass from sinking down.

STEP TWO
Remove the screw from the top of each post. Better to use a hand screw driver for more control.

STEP THREE
Remove the props and gently lower the glass panel.

STEP FOUR
Unscrew the problem strut.

STEP FIVE
Unscrew the top trim cap from the strut and screw it onto the new strut.

STEP SIX
Insert the new strut into the post, locate the screw point and screw it into place.

STEP SEVEN
Lift the glass up and back into position, secure it in place with the wooden blocks or suction pad.

STEP EIGHT
Replace the screw in the top of each post. It is best to do this by hand for more control.

Installing Retractable Glass Railings and Wind Barriers

Professional installation is an important part of a successful retractable glass railing project. Layout, substrate, anchoring, dimensions and site conditions all affect how a retractable wind barrier should be planned and secured. Installers should follow the applicable product instructions and evaluate project-specific structural and code requirements before installation.

Systems such as StopBreeze Variable Height Glass Railings use an adjustable upper glass section to provide flexible wind protection. When extended, the system works as a transparent retractable wind break; when lowered, it provides a more open profile. This combination makes variable-height glass systems relevant to residential, hospitality and commercial projects.

For projects that do not require adjustable height, fixed-height glass railing options are also available, providing a consistent glass profile and transparent wind protection.
