A Sea Wall Railing on Long Island Sound
This project sits on a sea wall along Long Island Sound. The wall stands several feet above the water, so it needed a railing for safety. A permanent tall railing would have cut across the view of the Sound from every chair.
StopBreeze variable height retractable railings solved both problems. With the glass down, each unit stands about 43 inches high and the view over the top stays open. With the glass up, it reaches about 72 inches and becomes a windscreen for windy days on the water.
Why it suits a sea wall
Waterfront wind changes by the hour. On a calm morning the glass stays down. When the wind comes off the Sound, the upper panel goes up and the space behind it stays usable.
The system is built from marine-grade materials for salt air and coastal weather. The upper panel rises when you press the top of the glass and locks back in place when lowered, so anyone can adjust it. The glass cleans up with vinegar and a microfiber pad.
The same setup works for private homes, marinas, waterfront restaurants and boardwalks, anywhere a drop to the water needs a barrier that does not block the view.
Planning a sea wall railing
Send us the length of your sea wall and a few photos. Units come in custom widths up to 78 inches, so we can tell you how many it takes and connect you with an installer.
Retractable Glass Railings for Waterfront Properties
On the water, retractable glass railings do two jobs. Down, they keep people back from the edge without hiding the view. Up, they work as a retractable wind barrier when the wind comes off the water.
Used that way, the railing becomes a clear retractable wind break for decks, terraces and sea walls. Compare StopBreeze Variable Height Glass Railings with fixed-height glass railing options to see which fits your site.
